4th Motif - Curds and Whey

Now that I  have Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns, I want to try every pattern in her book. One of the patterns I've been wanting to work on are edgings. The pattern I selected out of Mary's book was Curds and Whey.

It requires only one shuttle and I filled a plastic Clover shuttle and was able to complete this piece with 3-4 inches of thread left over. It measures about 7' (or 19cm) When I ordered the book from Handy Hands, they included a small spool of thread to try and I loved working with it. I could not find a number on it but is a size 40 thread and from the pictures on their website it could be the Grape Pizzaz color. It's absolutely gorgeous and a dream to work with.

I also worked on a small edging and added it to a burp cloth during the Superbowl Game which you can see on Tatteristic's main blog.

This is one of my favorite edgings! Unfortunately, I've only ever managed to tat about two inches before totally messing it up. Maybe I'll try again! Thanks for the inspiration! Love the thread!

Thank you all. Diane, don't look too closely at the edging or you'll see where I did mess up. It wasn't too bad of a mistake - just a missed join - so I kept going and I'm glad I did.

I used to think that edgings would be so boring to do but they're not - especially if you're using pretty thread.

I have always loved the look of this edging. I will have to borrow my Mom's copy of this book and give it a go sometime. I love how this color thread works with this pattern.

Hi Carol, thanks for stopping by. Sometimes it's not just about the pattern; the color(s) selected are just as important. I did the same pattern in a solid light blue color and it's a completely different look.

I love this edging and have tatted it several times just to try a thread out but have never actually put the edging ON anything. Gotta do something about that. Yours is so pretty!

This is gorgeous. The colour shows it off nicely.

Thanks Vanessa. It's a fun edging to do. I'll probably fill up the shuttle again and add to it.

OMG! I love all of these challenge Motifs, I looked at one, then the other, and the other... and I couldn't decide which one I liked better, they are all fantastic (although I am a little more partial to the dragon and the green heart).... you tat beautifully... thanks for visiting my blog, it is always nice to have new visitors. Hugs.

This pattern by Mary Konior is really enhanced by the thread! I usually shy away from the dyed threads that have white in them, but this one works nicely. I have yet to try size Lizbeth size 40. This looks delicate but wide.

I also like the way you put wavy text on your photo!

Hi Heather & Kathy, thanks for stopping by. I am having so fun doing the 25 Motif Challenge!

I agree with you Kathy about the thread. When you look at on the spool, it's so hard to tell what it will look like made up but I was pleasantly surprised with this color.
